Children in Need 2016

It is quickly approaching that time of year again when we dress up and collect money for an amazing cause. This year's Children in Need Appeal is on Friday 18th November.
At Penygawsi we enjoy raising money for this worthy cause and are extremely excited for this year's event. School Council and I have been busy planning our school activities, including a whole school assembly which they will lead on the appeal day itself.
This year School Council have decided we will all become spotacular fundraisers! We have decided to carry out a range of sporting challenges around our school grounds dressed in our finest fancy dress costumes and cooking up some spotacular delicacies which will be on sale during the appeal afternoon. This year we ask that the children cover themselves in spots. They can wear anything spotty. In case you would like some help choosing,School Council have come up with some super ideas:
- Clown
- Ladybird
- Leopard
- Cruella De Vil
- Fred Flintstone
- Dalmatian
- Mr Tumble
- Minnie Mouse
- Not forgetting Pudsey himself.
If your child does not wish to wear a costume why not wear a spotty tshirt or pjammas. We ask for £1 donation for wearing non-unifrom. All money raised will of course go towards the Children In Need Appeal. We will do our very best to let BBC know our final total raised so that it can be displayed on screen during the night's appeal.
Each child in every class will have the opportunity to do the following either on the day or throughout the week running up to the appeal day. The activities the School Council have chosen are as follows:
- Spotty Cooking Challenge
- Jumping Challenges
- Skipping Challenges
- Hoola Hoop Challenge
- Design your own cupcake
- Design a bear workshop
- Spotty Maths
If your child is in Nursery and reception we ask that they bring their favourite bear with them on the day to take part in a mini teddy bear's picnic at the end of day where they can enjoy a drink and spotty snack with their furry friends. All classes will have the opportunity to buy a spotty snack in the afternoon. Snacks on offer will be:
- Spotty biscuit - 30p
- Spotty Fairy cake - 50p
- Spotty Pancake - 50p
- Spotty cake - 80p
- Squash - 20p
Throughout the day each class will take part in PSE related activities linked to the appeal where they will gain a better understanding of why we raise money for this special cause each year. School Council have been busy preparing these activities with me this week.
Christmas Jumper Day 2016

We will also be supporting Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 16th December where the children can wear something Christmassy or don the traditional festive knitwear. We ask for a £1 donation for wearing non unfiorm and the money raised will go towards the Text Santa Appeal. This appeal works hard to support a range of amazing charities in the UK which include Macmillan, Save The Children and Make-a-Wish. This means the children will not need to pay any more money to wear their Christmas outfits. What a great way to end the term and put us in the Christmas spirit. I look forward to seeing all your wonderful and wacky knitted creations.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your continued support.
Regards
Mrs Rees and School Council
