The children thoroughly enjoyed this afternoon's pond dipping. Using their nets, spoons and glass jars they scooped, searched and collected a range of mini beasts found living in the pond. We found lots of creepy crawlies, some bigger than others and some more fierce too! There were Tadpoles and Water Louse galore, along with Water Boatman and Water Snails. Our favourites were the Dragonfly Nymphs and Damselfly Nymphs. However, we weren't so keen on Mr Nasty himself, the Water Beetle Larvae!
After catching the mini beasts the children were able to study them closer under telescopes back in the classroom before they were released back into the pond to spend the rest of the afternoon in the sunshine. It is safe to say the children had a wonderful day and have come home talking about creatures they may have never seen before. Take a look at the afternoon's fun...
