Your new spelling rule; Unusual Plurals

1. when we make plurals of words ending in the sound f , we usually change the f to v and add es eg. One loaf, two loaves
2. when words end in o, we add es eg. One potato, three potatoes
3. when the words end in y we change the y to I and add es eg. One baby, three babies, one hobby, two hobbies
4. The words do not change when there is more than one: on sheep, two sheep, one fish three fish
5. Odd ones: one woman, two women

Use a dictionary, your reading book, comics, magazines and/or newspapers etc to make a list of words with “unusual plurals”.
1. Write the list in alphabetical order
2. Use each one in a sentence
3. Find exceptions to the rule
4.Write silly sentences with them – The 3 babies had hobbies which included eating potatoes and tomatoes with wolves.
