This week we will be delving into the wonderful world of instructions, through recipes.  This is preparation for our DT project where you have decided in your groups to make scones for your miner’s lunch box.  Tell your mums and dads about what you have learnt with regards to a balanced and nutritional meal, along with the fact when we cook we MUST be hygienic.

Before we can cook our delicious snacks, we have to understand how a recipe looks and the steps needed to create a successful dish.  Throughout the week, you will be working together to highlight the features of a recipe, generate success criteria and finally write a detailed recipe for the cone of your choice.  As always there will be some reading, oracy and writing involved.  The Big Write will be another assessed piece of work and you will be given 60 minutes to complete it in.  This is not a story, which means the detail is less.  However, I will still expect to see adventurous, subject specific vocabulary and those wonderful complex connectives.

Mathemateg

In maths this week, we will be focusing on decimals.  This is the next step after fractions, before we look at percentages.  I am very proud of all the hard work you have put in over the past few weeks on fractions, and the skills you have developed.  Adding and subtracting fractions isn’t easy, yet some of you are now multiplying and dividing them too!!!  Well done everyone, keep up the hard work!  Just remember to be honest to yourself, choose the most appropriate level of problem for yourself, don’t worry about what others are choosing around you.  Additionally, when traffic lighting your work, be honest.  If it was hard, colour red because that doesn’t mean a fail – there is no such thing remember.  It is…

Cyngerdd Nadolig

The Christmas Concert is not far away now.  The children have been busy in my absence learning their words and practising as a class.  Every afternoon this week, we will be coming together as key stage 2 to practise our class items and congregational singing.  I have informed the children of what they need to wear, but in case the message has not got back to you parents, ALL children are to wear a Christmas jumper for the congregational singing. Those children who are news reporters need a short and tie for the class item, while everyone else will use their Christmas jumper.  The children are able to wear a novelty Christmas item too, such as glasses, hat and earrings for the girls.  Any questions, just come and ask.
